Fin de Siècle Double Heart Pendant
The enigmatic heart, a design that has spanned the ages, was very sought after at the end of the 19th century. During that time the dominant color choice for gemstones was typically colorless or near colorless and the demand was for jewelry to be feminine, delicate and characteristically light.
Usually affordable only to the very wealthy, here we have Edwardian luxury well within the reach of many a pocketbook. The heart-within-a-heart motif, symbolic of a love that unites two souls, incorporates twenty-six (26) cabochon moonstones of 3 to 4 mm each. All gems have been individually hand set into a perfect mount of 14k gold—a coronet or crown mount. The bale is a stylized fleur-de-lys form and is appointed with two more moonstones.
Measures 1-1/4 inches (3.3 cm) in length including ¼ of an inch (0.7 cm) bale by 1 inch (2.5 cm) at the widest. The pendant weighs 4.9 grams and is in very good to excellent condition. Dates to circa 1900 and the Belle Époque.
