Victorian Gold Wirework Cufflinks
Highly decorative, this pair of antique Victorian cufflinks is comprised of round medallions of 18 - 20k yellow gold and lay the foundation for open domed convex orbs to rest. As though woven into its surface, an X form of twisted wire is counterbalanced by two larger golden spheres; between, more intricate use of surface detail, granulation and wire work. Each end is joined securely with an oblong flat gold wire connectors.
Measuring 9/16 of an inch in diameter by 5/16 of an inch in depth (1.5 cm by 0.8 cm) and has a weight of 8 grams. In very good condition; light wear overall as expected with time; a single reinforcement to the base of an “O” fitting. Dates to circa 1870 and the Grand Period of the Victorian era.
Hallmarks: Evident on each link and connecting oval. Illegible, but a maker's mark possibly JS.
