Azure Blue: Edwardian Lapis Cufflinks
For thousands of years lapis lazuli has been cherished and held in high esteem. Often made into amulets, this precious stone has been credited with promoting peace of mind. Calming effect or not, this pair of antique gold and lapis links will surely bring forth admiring glances. Ovals of deep blue lapis, set into open backed surrounds of 14k yellow gold bring to mind images of ancient Greek architecture with its careful and precise detailing. Single shank bean back closures facilitate one-handed placement on or off the cuff.
Measures 11/16 of an inch or 1.7 cm long by 5/8 of an inch or 1.5 cm wide. The bean back is ½ of an inch in length by 5/16 of an inch in width (1.3 cm long by 0.8 cm wide). In very good to excellent condition; the only item of note is a small amount of creasing on the gold shank between the face and the foot of the cufflinks. Dates to circa 1900 – 1910. Weight of 8 grams.
