Antique Smoky Quartz Pendant

$2,950 USD Item 10335

A grand faceted citrine or smoky quartz of approximately 11 carats is the standout focal point of this late 19th century antique pendant. Citrine or smoky quartz (as it is also known) is a member of the quartz mineral family. The impurities found within the quartz usually create the color of the mineral and typically that color defines the type of quartz. With hues of light mink the stone is referred to as “smoky quartz”.

Open backed and outlined with a perimeter of 15k gold, the faceted gemstone is set upon a platform of open gold fret and wire work. Appointments of scroll and foliate motifs proliferate and golden granulations are interspersed throughout. The original bale is punctuated with scroll granulation. With hints of Art Nouveau and Victorian, this antique pendant is bold and chic and will draw out the dramatic in almost any scene.

Measures 2-3/16 inches in length (including bale) by 1-3/16 inches in width by ½ of an in deep (5.5 cm long by 3.3 cm wide by 1.2 cm deep). The stone itself is 1-1/8 inches long by 7/8 of an inch wide (2.7 cm long by 2.2 cm wide). Condition is very fine with nothing of note. Hallmarked “585” for 15k gold. Dates to circa 1890 and is Continental in origin.
