Gold & Paste 18th C. Stomacher Pendant
It is no wonder the Spaniards put their love of gold above all else. No matter how many centuries pass, high carat gold, especially in this case, virtually glows from within. Partnered with emerald-hued pastes and natural pearls it is irresistible. In a classic three-part pendant, we have a top section resembling a stylized bow followed by a smaller mid-section and then a smaller drop. The main stones, each studded with the richest of color, are surrounded with natural seed pearls. The pearls are wired around the perimeter and attached to the reverse of the piece. Traditionally worn on ribbon, it still boasts the two fittings for that original purpose. Today, it is fashion forward to do the same or place a gossamer chain through it.
Measures 2-5/16 inches in length by 1-15/16 inches wide (5.4 cm long and 5 cm wide). In very good condition; two pastes reinforced or replaced and one has a minor chip on one side. All gold work is exceptional. Circa 1780 and Spanish in origin.
