Georgian Blue & White Enamel Memorial Ring

$1,670 USD Item 10065

Enamel work alone can place a piece of jewelry in a class all its own. Now add in the Georgian period, the atypical and unusual use of blue and white enameling and that neoclassic was the fashion edict of the day. Now that piece warrants attention.

A gold rectangular plaque with edges slightly rounded serves as the canvas for this artistic rendering. The face of the ring is curved to rest comfortably as it follows along the contours of the finger. Bands of blue and white enamel alternate with a band of a glimpse of gold interspersed among the enamel. Centermost a band of white enamel proudly displays striking gold decorative work of grapes, dots and a wreath. The shank repeats a pattern of the gold and enamel banding. The entire interior of the shank has been engraved, most likely with an inscription that has been lost to time and wear.

Size US 7-¼ (UK O; Euro 17.5) and cannot be sized due to enameling. Weighs 3 g. In very good condition with all of the enamel intact and in fine condition; a touch of blue enamel has transferred into the white enamel giving it a tint of very pale blue. English in origin and dates to circa 1790. Handsome on a man; elegant for a woman.
