Turquoise & Pearl Art Nouveau Necklace
Striking in its matrix of vibrant color, an oval of natural turquoise dances a pas de deux with a surround of lace-like silver gilt filigree in its masterful main role as an antique pendant. Three turquoise drops suspended from delicate links of silver gilt chain perform as the ensemble. Baroque pearls and beads of natural turquoise are connected with links of 20k gold in a perfectly matched, although not original, chain. The turquoise beads are a shade less vibrant with hues ranging from green to turquoise. As is typical with porous gems, turquoise with wear has more of a green tint. A very organic piece in both look and feel.
Measures 3 inches (8.3 cm) in length by 1-7/16 inches (3.8 cm) in width. The chain is 17-1/2 inches (44.5 cm) long without pendant and hangs approximately 11 inches (27.9 cm) with the pendant. Hallmarks are difficult to discern. Condition is very good; some minor wear (and appearing a touch darker) to gilding at the edges of pendant. Later date chain. Main turquoise has two areas in the darker sections which are less smooth as part of the nature of the material. Dates to circa 1890.
